A walk-through of the renewal process end to end, and where delays most commonly happen.
Emirates ID renewal is simpler than most people expect, but it depends entirely on your residence visa being renewed first — the two cannot run in parallel.
Once the visa stamping is complete, we submit the ID application to ICP with your updated visa details, current photo, and biometric data (fingerprints are only retaken if there has been a significant gap since your last ID, typically over five years).
Processing at ICP's end usually takes two to four working days for straightforward renewals, but the most common cause of delay isn't processing at all — it's a mismatch in the data submitted.
A spelling difference between the name on your passport and the name on your visa record, or a missing middle name, will send the application back for correction. That correction cycle, not the queue, is what adds days.
We check the visa record against your passport before submitting specifically to avoid that round trip. You get a reference number at submission and a realistic collection date, not a vague estimate.
